Stemming from an interest in developing alternative forms of art education, we, a multidisciplinary group of artists, writers, educators, and students, founded Self-Taught in 2018. Self-Taught to valued newfound research on education and pedagogy through collaboration, group discussion, and play.
In 2018 we occupied Raven Row to provide our collective with a base for individual projects in an environment of mutual nurturance and support of other artists and collaborators with a strong interdisciplinary ethos. As a group we looked at ways in which communities of artists and beyond thrive and learn from one another whilst challenging inherent power dynamics that is ‘learning’.
Throughout 2018 we hosted workshops, screenings and a 3 day residency in Exmoor National Park exploring the theme of Shadow Pedagogies and Play.
